Tough fixtures for Toubabo’s Mons
Tough fixtures for Toubabo’s Mons
Dificult times await Gambian international Mustapha Jarju alias Toubabo club side RAEC Mons as they are newly promoted to the Belgian Jupiler Pro League side. RAEC Mons will face difficult encounters in their opening ties of the 2011/2012 season as they make their return to top flight football of Belgian football. The fixture for the next Belgian Pro League Championship was drawn this week and Mons will mark their return to the top flight with a home game against Standard Liege at the Stade de Charles Tondreau. The game against Standard Liege will be a Walloon derby.
Mustapha “Toubabo” Jarju was the teams’ leading goal scorer pocketing 25goals leading them to return to the top flight of football.
Meanwhile RAEC Mons are set to kick start their pre-season training without their marks man who looks unlikely to pen a contract extension as he was missing in the first leg of contract discussion.
Jarju is tight-lipped over a possibility of signing a renewal with promoted RAEC and his decision not to show up at the club’s board meeting indicates the 24-year-old is likely to quit the Dragons of Mons after a three-year spell with the Belgian outfit.
It was reported last week that Jarju was set for talks with his employers as Mons bid to strengthen their attacking force, but it was a bomb-shell for the club when Toubabo snubbed the chance to discuss contract extension and the club could be heading for risk should they not act fast for a quick recruitment.
To Mons credit, they’ve secured the services of seven players in the transfer window but seventeen players showed up for the team’s first division preparation and Jarju was nowhere to be seen. The situation could be frustrating for Mons to lose their price asset who was pivotal in their promotion chase last season.
Mustapha Jarju has a whole lot of offers up for him and most recently one from Sweden. A club official is quoted as saying “As for Jarju, the more time passes, the less the chances are for him to extend. The door is not close yet, but that’s Mustapha to make an effort if he wants to continue with us.”
