Savage scores in HJK’s drubbing of Jaro

Gambia international Demba Savage scored his first goal for his new team HJK Helsinki in a 4-1 drubbing of FF Jaro at the Sonera Stadium in Helsinki.
Savage was a 90-minute man in HJK’s attack and he helped guide the team to their second victory of the season at an action-packed opening half-hour which saw Jaro take a tenth-minute lead when 23-year-old Russian defender Ilya Vaganov put away a free kick from Jussi Aalto, however that would be the only bright spot for the visitors.
Mathias Lindström put away a corner from Mikko Salo to pull HJK even in the 17th, then Akseli Pelvas took advantage of loose defending to put the ball away into an open net three minutes later.
Former FC Honka winger, Demba Savage, then left the defense in the dust when he cut in from the wing and beat Artur Kotenko for the 3-1. They added a fourth in the 50th minute, after the Jaro defense was unable to effectively clear the ball from the area, allowing Mikko Sumusalo time to easily complete the rout.
Savage’s HJK are now standing second in the standings with six points and up next for them in the league, is a trip to Kouvola to face Myllykosken Pallo [MyPa].
But HJK, who easily did away with Jaro, leaving the team winless through their first two games of the 2012 season, will host the same team in the Quarter-finals of the Finnish cup.
Jaro will almost certainly be in for another tough ride on Thursday, as they are still looking for the rhythm on both sides of the ball that will keep them from suffering through a long and painful season.
HJK have added incentive to hoist the trophy a second straight time this season, as it would be their 12th final win and would put them on even terms with FC Haka in the all-time record.
