Njogu’s Esbjerg defeated by SønderjyskE

Gambia international Njogu Demba and his promoted Danish Superligaen side Esbjerg fB suffered their second defeat in the Danish topflight after a 2-1 defeat to SønderjyskE at the Blue Water Arena.
Last weekend’s 0-0 draw to AGF gave Njogu and his team their first point in the top flight and were looking to better that performance by winning this game but it wasn’t meant to be for them.
The visitors, SønderjyskE, wasted no time in jumping to an early lead, with Lasse Vibe slipping in behind the defense to pull down a long ball over the top from Eyjolfur Hedinsson, then smacking it from the left side of the area to the far upper corner.
The hosts equalized just past the half-hour in wholly unexpected fashion, as a corner from Arnor Smarason flew over a crowd of players and looped untouched into goal for the rarest of goals.
With the game looking headed to a draw, the visitors secured the three valuable points seconds past the end of regulation, with Bjorn Paulsen rising high to meet a cross from the left side with an acrobatic header.
Njogu was brought on in the 90th minute but it was little too late for him as he couldn’t help Jess Thorup’s side succumbing to defeat. The defeat leaves them at 11th in the 12-team-table with a point from three.
They will host Danish powerhouse FC Copenhagen next at the 18000 capacity Blue Water Arena.
